Ryder Cup Rowdies. PGA

Did I hear my ears  right?  Did the team captain of the USA actually instruct the gallery to be rowdy?   I had to rethink everything I knew about attending the ” Superbowl ” of golf event as I had the privilege of meeting with the buyers at the Medinah Country Club earlier in the season, and “rowdy” was the antithesis of the energy being emanated from that property.

Golf enthusiasts from around the globe were eager to oblige …The Ryder Cup Rowdies were in full swing upon my arrival on Saturday.   The Euro version of The Blue Man group were “a friendly lot,” donning full body royal  blue Lycra, and cork screw wigs, ( rather than the shaved look we are used to seeing),The US was  a sea of red, white and blue all cheering their lungs out imprinting a palpable feeling of pride I will not soon forget.

A sweet teenage girl from Poland, held guard at the 18th hole with her patient parents to get her hat signed by Bubba,  and who could blame her?  Michael Jordan’s attendance turned a few heads as well.  Former President, George W. Bush made room in his schedule for Chicago’s event of the year.    My cousin, Mark Brammer, (former TE for the Bills, 1980-84), called it, “an incredible experience.  I really loved the whole Team USA concept which really stood out for me.

I have watched the Ryder Cup before on the big screen, however, it is a whole different experience when you are there.”.    It was an international potpourri of 50 plus thousand people….all in the name of the love of golf.     Count me in!    I love this sport for so many reasons and the Ryder Cup put the candle on the frosting of the cake for me. Perfect strangers offered their home base information as a proud moniker to their roots.

Grand Rapids, MI is the place I call home which a seatmate quickly identified  as the birthplace of a very cool Tourist attraction called ArtPrize.  And hey, if they want to visit the beaches as a bonus, or hit the Lynks  as a given, all the better.   The Concierge in me wishes to welcome you to our stunning secret of the Midwest.

During this impromptu “joining up”,  gorgeous woman from Newport Beach invited me to visit her and do a little Anti-Aging Happy Hour With Hormones.  She must be getting a jump on it as she bit into my Birdie Bar and claimed it was the best energy bar she had ever tasted.  Must be those Michigan blueberries.  Another group of ladies chatted with me at the clubhouse and had the supreme bragging rights of hosting the 2016 venue.  The Ryder Cup had the very best of the best, through, to and including the weather.

Prior to The Ryder Cup,  the most comparable sports thriller for me was being invited to be the presenter of the musical freestyle  ( an Olympic Event,  horse and rider dance) at  The event of Dressage,  “Dressage  At Devon, which has recently been illuminated by Ann Romney.   Once again I was deep in my comparisons of the two very regal and lovely sports.   Crestfallen, as I was, at the conclusion of the match, I had to give props to our team for their great go, out of the gate, and wish them, tall boot pulls to: pick themselves up, dust themselves off, and get ready for Scotland.

I was overdue to revisit one of my favorite places so I will be calling the travel agent to stake claim to my spot in Scotland, right after I schedule a putting lesson at The Grand Traverse Resort.
